Disaster Relief

The Disaster Relief Service provides relief to communities affected by man made or natural disaster by restoring destroyed infrastructure (e.g. Housing, schools, water supply) following a disaster victims prior to availability of final solution. Our Disaster Relief efforts have spanned the supplies of food and immediate relief materials to victims as well as mid-term relief services particularly infrastructural development, thereby strengthening disaster recovery capacity of affected communities. In providing disaster relief, the Foundation takes the following approach;

 ·Disaster Identification: The Foundation monitors disasters, as they occur to make a decision as to whether the situation fits within the disaster Relief program intervention criteria.wreckage of Methodist Pry school oshodi affected by bomb explosions disaster

·
Screening: The disaster is screened to determine whether the need is one, which the Foundation can appropriately address. Factors to be considered include magnitude of need, the Foundation’s relief capabilities, receptivity of community to assistance, impact of assistance on the community.

·
Selection of Disaster Relief to focus on: The Foundation’s management will make a recommendation to its board to adopt a particular disaster and provide relief to its victims.

Needs Identification and Community Coordination: The Foundation will assess the needs of the community and obtain their input in replacing damaged infrastructure and will have a representative from the community on the project coordination team.

Disaster Relief Fund

The disaster Relief Fund will cater to the issue of medium term disaster relief by applying funds raised, specifically, for restoring damaged infrastructure to its previous standard. In providing medium term relief to victims, the Foundation will not only provide funding but will galvanize other organizations to continue to donate materials, cash or services and coordinate the restoration project well after the disaster has occurred. After the Lagos bomb explosions disaster, a coffee morning fundraising dinner was organized on the 26th of October, 2002 to galvanize the private sector. The Foundation also organized Raffle Draws, to generate funding for its medium term relief efforts.
